Highlights in Translational Science

Research provides the basis for the future of ophthalmology. The four sessions of this new format present clinical problems like age-related macular or dry eye syndrome are discussed under clinical and research perspectives, allowing for a more complete view. After each session, the best abstract of the session will be chosen.

Highlights in Translational Science: AMD
This sessions covers the most recent knowledge on the clinical etiology as well as genetic and cellular mechanisms involved in age-related macular degeneration. Key findings from translational research suggesting a dysfunction of the retinal pigment epithelium and the innate immune system will be presented. Finally, novel therapy approaches and molecular targets will be discussed.
