Retina: The promising future in ophthalmology
The Hungarian-German Retinal Symposium aims to provide a comprehensive and focused medical and surgical retina update for the retina subspecialist, interested ophthalmologist and ophthalmologist in training. Since 1998, already the 7th joint meting of the German and Hungarian Ophthalmogical Societies is being organized. This time the topic is retina, including surgical innovative techniques. The molecular biological evaluation of vitreous samples obtained by pars plana vitrectomy due to rhegmatogenous retinal detachment is presented with special focus on the immune modulatory cytokines. The evolution of novel imaging methods such as optical coherence tomography angiography is discussed, especially its current role in the differential diagnosis of retinal disorders. Development of the diagnostic and treatment strategies in tumors of the posterior segment is also a hot topic in eye research. During this symposium, speakers from Hungary and Germany are holding lectures with focus on „retina topics“. The major educational objectives include sharing current knowledge and the exchange of ideas regarding new clinical and medical advances in management of complex posterior segment disease, as well as novel approaches to posterior segment surgery. The presentations are followed by an interactive discussion about the different national approaches and strategies.
